Spirit

Pelkhil seeks to impart education in its broadest sense. The Pelkhil Spirit is thus wide ranging and perhaps best reflected in the following quotations:

Rudyard Kipling (1865 – 1936)

Many years ago Rudyard Kipling gave an address at McGill University in Montreal. He said one striking thing which deserves to be remembered. Warning the students against an over-concern for money, or position, or glory, he said: “Some day you will meet a man who cares for none of these things. Then you will know how poor you are.” (As told by Halford E. Luccock)

Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955)

“It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.”

“I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.”

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.”

“Imagination is more important than knowledge…”

“Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school.”

“Try not to become a man of success but rather to become a man of value.”

“Truth is what stands the test of experience.”

Thomas Edison (1847 – 1931)

“Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.”

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

“I never did a day’s work in my life. It was all fun.”

Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley The First Duke of Wellington (1769 – 1852)

“The Battle of Waterloo was won on the playing-fields of Eton.”

Karl Popper (1902 -1994)

“Whenever a theory appears to you as the only possible one, take this as a sign that you have neither understood the theory nor the problem which it was intended to solve”

“Our knowledge can only be finite, while our ignorance must necessarily be infinite.”

Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche Jamyang Dorji (1926 – 1999)

“Seeing all things are as impermanent as a flash of lightning, it’s so sad to stay lax and unconcerned.”

Our school motto is “Veritas – Humilitas – Integritas”: truth, humility and integrity. The quotations above should give a clear idea of our interpretation of these ideals. We will strive to pass them on to all Pelkhil Tigers and, in doing so, become Bhutan’s leading positive externality.
