Inter-school Basketball Competition: Pelkhil school was crowned the champion of the inter-school basketball competition after it outscored Rinchen school 48-42 in the finals played yesterday at the YDF complex in Thimphu.
It was Pelkhi school players’ height that gave them the edge over their adversaries as they slid in numerous lay-ups, hit many jumpers and grabbed rebounds of the shots that didn’t make it.
In the second quarter Rinchen was able to up their score from five points to 22 with some promising shots from outside the paint over Pelkhil’s tall point guards.
Those scores were, however, turned futile when Pelkhil’s point guard Michael Lotey responded with nine points or three consecutive three-pointers in addition to which Tandin Gyaltshen made a few assists to count. The second quarter ended 22-30 in favour of Pelkhil.
The game continued more or less like so and Pelkhil boys sealed the victory.
In the girls match, however, Pelkhil girls lost to Kelki 43-66.
The winners of the tournament will be playing in the regional level during the summer vacation.
Lungtenzampa middle secondary school organised the event with funds from Thimphu Thromde.
