Inter School Basketball competition: In the ongoing Inter School Basketball competition, Yangchenphug higher secondary school yesterday thrashed Motithang higher secondary school 42-14 in the league round of the girl’s category.

Although both teams lacked the uniformity to run a smooth game with the referee having to blow the whistle time to time, three pointers and quick breakaway passes by team Yangchenphug decided the game.

The absence of score from both the teams in the second quarter prevailed for sometime when a basket and two good three point shots from Motithang brought the point difference to mere one basket. Yanghenphug however answered right back with their forward having the upper hand in accuracy, driving the ball into the defence and making two quick baskets. A tough basket from Motithang brought the game to 16-12 for Yangchenphu in the half time.

With higher ball possession and rebound collection, Yangchenphug girls maintained the lead to half time, although their opponent cut the gap with few fast breaks and under basket maneuvers.

The second half was completely dominated by Yangchenphug with increased attempts widening the margin. Mothithang had a hard time defending and despite their hands kept high they couldn’t prevent their opponents shots.

Team Motithang was overshadowed and they managed only two baskets in the second half time. Yangchenphu’s wall of defence was too much for Motithang to earn a score and to make it worst their shoots either bounced off the board or the ring. As the forwards from Yangchenphu took countless baskets from the jumper, time finally brought a halt to Yangchenphu’s ever increasing points. The game ended 14-42 in favour of team Yangchenphu.

In the other girl’s matches, Babesa middle secondary school had sweet victory against Rinchen higher secondary school 19-16, and Nima higher secondary school outscored Babesa school to 43-31. The boy’s category saw Pelkhil School crushing Changangkha middle secondary school 83-29. Started on April 22 with a total of 26 teams, all matches are played everyday at the Nazhoen Pelri indoor basketball complex. The semifinals starts on April 27.
