23 July 2012 The caretaker of the Motithang higher secondary school (HSS) in Thimphu is recovering from injuries, after six boys assaulted him on the night of July 19.
The caretaker, who is from Wangduephodrang, suffered a deep cut on the mouth, over the eyes and bruises on his hands and legs.
Although the caretaker refused to comment, after his principal instructed him not to talk to media, sources from Motithang HSS said the caretaker was assaulted by the boys, when he, along with three other support staff of the school, were inspecting the school that night, when they heard boys shouting outside the school campus.
The caretaker was hiding under a tree inside the gate, to see if the boys were damaging the school infrastructure, when the boys beat him.
The incident happened at around 11pm.
“The same group of boys tried to enter into the school campus at 9pm that night,” a source from Motithang HSS said.
The six boys are still at large, since the victim and his friends could not identify them. The school filed a case with the police on July 20. Police were however not available for comments.
Police also detained a former student of Jigme Namgyal LSS, after he broke the glass of a vehicle of a Motithang teacher. The suspect was alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol.
